One-week retreat

Join us for a week of intensive Zen practice surrounded by the peaceful nature of the Bükk mountains in Hungary.
 
The Summer Retreat 2026 will be led by Zen Master Hyon Ja, offering an opportunity to deepen meditation practice together with the sangha in a supportive retreat environment.
 
The retreat includes:
• sitting and walking meditation
• chanting
• mindful eating
• work practice
• kong-an practice
• interviews with the teachers
• time in nature and forest walks
 
🌿 The retreat is open to both experienced practitioners and newcomers interested in Zen practice.

📅 Retreat Dates: 4–11 July 2026
 
Arrival options:
• 1st entry: Saturday, 4 July until 18:00
• 2nd entry: Wednesday, 8 July, 17:15–18:15
 
The retreat ends with lunch on Saturday, 11 July.
 
🚆 Transportation: If you need pickup from Bükkmogyorós, please let us know your arrival date and time in advance.
 
🧘 What to Bring
• Sleeping bag
• Slippers
• Towel and toiletries
• Ecological soap and shampoo
• Comfortable practice clothing (t-shirt, long pants, socks)
• Clothes and shoes suitable for forest walks and all weather conditions
• Alarm clock (please avoid using phones)
 
🥗 Meals: Three vegan meals per day will be provided. If you have any dietary restrictions or special needs, please let us know in advance.
 
🐕 Please note: Friendly dogs roam freely on the retreat grounds.
 
💰 Suggested Donation:
  • Kwan Um Zen members:
    • Full retreat: 70,000 HUF / approx. 175 EUR
    • Second entry: 40,000 HUF / approx. 100 EUR
  • Non-members:
    • Full retreat: 90,000 HUF / approx. 225 EUR
    • Second entry: 54,000 HUF / approx. 135 EUR

The retreat will be held in both Hungarian and English. Translation will be provided throughout the entire program.
Participants will also have the opportunity to take part in a Precepts Ceremony, receiving the Five or Ten Precepts.
